Happy Sunday, Friends! North Texas Giving day is an amazing event this Thursday put on by Communities Foundation of Texas that supports over 2000 local charities. Each charity listed on the North Texas Giving Day page is eligible to participate based solely on their 501c3 status. Additionally, you may find information on given charities by searching for organizations with the Guidestar Logo. I've curated a list of 20 agencies that are supported by our group members or that I've had personal experience with. Please feel free to comment and introduce our group to organizations you are familiar with as well.

The mission of Camp Summit is to provide barrier-free outdoor experiences that promote personal growth and foster independence for children and adults with disabilities.
For 69 years Camp Summit has developed and delivered outdoor camping experiences for children, adults and seniors with disabilities. Motivated by the fact that our campers and their families have few, if any, options for overnight and stay-away recreational experiences that also improves their independence, confidence and social skills, Camp Summit offers our programs to develop these skills and freedoms for our campers. A critical component of our program is eliminating barriers faced by this special population. We provide a totally barrier-free and adaptable program for all types of disabilities plus, we address financial burdens, which are a very real barrier prohibiting participation. Camp Summit successfully eliminates financial barriers for our campers through our Campership and Financial Assistance Project. This project provides sliding scale fees and camperships to 90% of our campers ensuring that families can provide the life changing experience of camp for their loved one with a disability, regardless of any financial constraints. Camp Summit relies on the generosity of the community to secure funding for our very critical Campership and Financial Assistance Project. Camp Summit is proud to announce that we have realized a long time goal to own our own camp. With our recent move in 2016, to our “forever home” in Paradise, Texas we will have an immediate 25% increase in our capacity. This will also allow us to serve a greater number of campers and reduce our waiting lists which have continued to grow for the past several years. As we settle into this new camp our goal is to use our building momentum to complete the final fundraising and achieve the campaign goal of $13.6MM.

Our Promise: Knowing that every child's life is sacred, it is the promise of Cook Children's to improve the health of every child in our region through the prevention and treatment of illness, disease and injury.
Cook Children’s promotes family-centered care as part of our philosophy by recognizing the importance a family plays in support of the hospitalized child, as well as the role Cook Children’s plays in support of the patient and family. The Child Life department works with patients and families to help them cope with the extra challenges of living with a chronic illness or even comprehending a procedure or treatment the patient is faced with. We realize that creating a sense of normalcy for patients and providing experiences they would otherwise not have help them learn vital skills and gain independence – Camps for Kids is a wonderful program that accomplishes just that. Camps for Kids has a strong emphasis on peer, parent and sibling support for children with various chronic illnesses, disorders and disabilities. Prior to the first camp being established, camping was not an option for these children because of the impact their diagnosis had on their daily lives. Camp for Kids provides a camp experience in a medically safe environment where these kids can fish, play ball, climb a ropes course, have campfires and just be kids. This may be the first time a child or family has met another child with a similar illness and can gain the support that is so often needed from peers who are going through similar challenges. Camp for Kids provides many benefits to the campers and the community including: learning new skills, building socialization and self-esteem skills, challenging them to try new things, gaining knowledge about their illness and discovering they are not alone in treatment. In 2016, 1077 patients will attend the 24 various camps offered by Cook Children’s. Camps for Kids is a donor funded program ensuring that all campers’ fees are provided. Each camp is targeted to provide memorable experiences to campers with a similar diagnosis. Join us by providing these deserving children an experience that will impact them for the rest of their lives.

16. THE CLUBHOUSE FOR SPECIAL NEEDS
To provide a safe and fun place for teens and young adults with mild/moderate intellectual/physical challenges -- an opportunity for education, socialization and independence in a recreational atmosphere.
It would be amazing if we could payoff our building mortgage - approx. $340K. It is possible folks! Read on! We started with 4 young people in 2006. We leased a1727 sq. ft. portion of a commercial building and grew to 12. In 2013 we raised $100k in 3 months and put down a deposit for 7,151 sq. ft. facility. Our very own building [and the banks]. The community called it a "A GOD THING." That it was. In 3 1/2 months we grew from 12 teens and young adults with intellectual/physical challenges to 41. Amazing! Our young people continue to age on us and if we could payoff our mortgage we could look into expanding to provide for our aging population because they have no place to go and we can continue to support and help them expand their life and educational experience: Education, Socialization and Independence. MISSION STATEMENT: The Clubhouse for Special Needs provides a safe and fun place for teenagers and young adults with intellectual/physical challenges. It provides opportunity for education, socialization and independence in a recreational atmosphere. YOU can help us pay off our mortgage by giving– whether small or great! For every $1,000 Donated [collectively] Darlene will color a portion of her long hair neon pink! For every $10,000 [collectively] Darlene will color a portion of her long hair neon green. If everyone shares with their friends, we could easily turn Darlene’s head into a neon flower!!!!! SHARE & GIVE If YOU are brave and want to join Darlene in coloring your hair accordingly, just let us know so we can include you in the publicity. NOTE: All funds raised will be used according to the needs of the organization. Our verse: "...exceedingly abundantly above all we ask or think..." Ephesians 3:20a.
